Meet Ella Krohn
Q: Where did you start your career?
A: I started at Christie’s as an apprentice in Digital & Exhibition Design in 2021. I was very fortunate to land on my feet with a creative role in one of the worlds leading auction houses, after my gap year and being chucked into the world with no preparation (thank you covid!) I thought I would dabble in the world of work before I went to Uni and see how far I can get without a degree. I had been told that I would not achieve very much in sixth form if I did not go on to get a degree. So naturally, I had prove my teachers wrong.
Whilst at Christie’s I got to help exhibition installations, be apart of iconic exhibitions such as the James Bond 50 years anniversary. I helped design leading campaigns for Luxury Week, assisting on shoot and in creating assets. I had amazing exposure to some of the best creatives, best practises and art in the world! I truly loved my time at Christie’s - each week I got to experience new art. I just constantly remember finding it hilarious that I casually would walk past Banksy, Andy Warhol, Picasso and so many more amazing art pieces every day. It was the ideal place for a young creative who loved art!
Christie’s ignited my passion for working in the creative field and pushed me to progress further. After 18 months at Christie’s apprenticeship ended I then went on to work for Arksen, a luxury outdoor adventure brand, which is a start-up. I managed to dive into the deep end, helping them build there new website, implement new strategy and marketing campaign. After 6 months there I was promoted to Creative Producer, meaning I get to create, pitch and oversee the creation of campaigns. My first shoot as Creative Producer was for Arksen’s Labs & Arksen Overland, where we went down to Bristol to capture a few shots of a jacket with one of the iconic defenders Arksen build. I am currently still at Arksen getting to produce & direct shoots across their vessels & vehicles and even clothing!
Q: Where are places you go to be inspired?
A: I have recently been gifted a Tate membership so have been able to absorb some of their exhibitions quite regularly. I love being able to interact with art in a personal away, allowing it to be consumed and engaged with. Tate’s recent exhibition ‘Women in Revolt’ was one that I have found myself thinking about often recently, I went the day before it closed and wish I could give it a second viewing. It was one of the best exhibitions I have been to recently, so thought provoking and inspiring, especially as a woman myself. One line that stayed with me was one of the first images of the exhibition.
“I was there first as a participant, second as a photographer” - it is the approach I want to take in life, especially when creating art.
I also love to consume film, TV and books. I love being absorbed into different worlds and think that fiction can teach us so much about our own lives and the society we live in. When I start to create work I often find myself using films, series and books as reference points to drive my moodboards & creativity forward.
